Today I’ll be featuring Indie Fantasy writer Andrea Buginsky.
Welcome to annamaria’s corner.
Born with a heart condition, Andrea is familiar with echocardiography (ultrasounds of the heart). As she was growing up, she wanted to be an echocardiographer, but when she entered college, algebra and anatomy turned out to be some of her fiercest enemies.
The ‘what do I want to be when I grow up’ syndrome wrapped it’s tendrils around her brain. Older sister Erica came to the rescue. “You like to write,” she said. “Why not do that?”
’70-watt light bulb!’ She was right, Andrea loves to write and switching major to journalism was a snap. She completed her Associates in Arts degree at the local college and obtained her BA in Mass Communications from the University of South Florida.
Armed with renewed enthusiasm, she freelanced from home for various websites, while trying to figure out the plot and characters for her novel. Like most of us, Andrea has a favorite author, Danielle Steel. Who doesn’t want to walk in the shoes of our heroes? She set out to write a romance novel. Well, five years into that project, the draft is still unfinished, sitting in a corner collecting dust, because romance is not Andrea’s true calling.
Fumbling in the dark was frustrating.
Curious to know what happened next, Andrea responded with the following:
“One day, I was watching the movie “The Seeker: The Dark is Rising,” and it hit me: I love fantasy, so why not write my own? At the time, I was playing an online role-playing game with my family and friends, so I used our characters, built a world for them, and started creating adventures for them to go on. “The Chosen” was born, and I haven’t looked back.”
She went on to tell me, “I loved writing the characters the way I wanted them to be, and creating their world, Phantasma. I enjoy coming up with different quests for them to go on, and new villains to meet and defeat along the way. I love these six individuals, and they are a huge part of me. Especially Halli, who was my character in the game. Her character in the story is very similar to who I am, or feel like I am. She’s my baby, so to speak, and I love her to death.”
With book two released, Nature’s Unbalance (The Chosen), Andrea is currently editing the third book in the series “The Chosen” and scribbling notes about the fourth book.
When asked about something she would like to accomplish she said:
“My dream is that one day, readers will be eagerly anticipating the release of the next book in the series. I would love to spend my time Skyping with students at school’s all over, talking to them about books, and answering their questions.”
If you’d like to get in touch with Andrea about her books or any other writing topic, or just about anything else, she would love to hear from you via email at email@example.com. You can also use any of her websites to contact her.
